Happy 3rd Birthday Dani Jade!

Yep, we can hardly believe it, but today is our daughter's 3rd birthday. As a reminder, we will never know the exact date Dani was born, however; the significance of the orphanage giving her a birthdate of September 14 is that our youngest son, Dylan was born on August 14th and our oldest son, Dustin was born on October 14th. Dani's birthday being given on September 14th completes the chain, just as she completes our family. I feel so blessed to not only have her in our lives but to be able to be home with her everyday and enjoy every moment.

Tonight will be a small, family celebration followed by a dinner party on Sunday with all of our family. Dani is SO excited that her birthday is finally here. She now understands that with birthdays comes presents and cake and has been saying "my birthday next" ever since Dylan's birthday in August.

The video below was her birthday morning present. She is a little subdued as she just woke up, but needless to say, she has not left the Dora tent at all this morning!

Giving the GoPro a Shot!

As promised, below is some video footage of Chris and Dylan boogie boarding last week in PB. The waves were pretty big, hence the yelling! Disclaimer: this is VERY amateur video . . .they are still learning how to best use the video camera. Enjoy!

So Long Summer

Well, it is the "unofficial" end of summer for the Bagalini Family, as the boys returned to school today. I can hardly believe it but Dustin is in his Senior year of high school. Where does the time go? To top things off, he will celebrate his 18th birthday next month. We are so proud of the young man he is and is becoming. While most kids have a fairly easy workload Senior year, Dustin has elected to take 3 AP classes with his only elective being ASB. He was elected Sports Commissioner this year, so hopefully he won't have as hectic of a schedule as he did last year as class Vice President. College applications are due October/November, so he will be busy with applications, essays, SATs and ACTs as well.

Dylan is now in the 7th grade and officially a teenager, having celebrated his 13th birthday last month. We see another young man in the making and are so proud of him as well. He has a keen interest in photography and bought a Go Pro video camera with his birthday money. I hope to post some of his amateur video footage soon as they are pretty hilarious!

As I am a stay-at-home Mom now, thank goodness I have Dani to keep me busy and not dwell on the fact that my boys are growing up and soon will not need their Mom as they do now. I am so very grateful and appreciative that I have the opportunity to stay home with Dani and be here for the boys 100%.

Summer 2011 was a great one for us. Both boys were able to surf almost every day, and we made multiple trips to the beach as a family. What a difference it made for everyone that I was home full time this summer. In addition to our beach trips Dylan's competitive lacrosse team traveled to Sonoma, CA for a tournament. While the team didn't fair well in the tourney, they boys had a blast and Dani, Chris and I were able to explore Sonoma and San Francisco in between games (OK, we missed one game, but Dylan didn't notice). It was a great road trip!

August also kicked off our 3 month consecutive birthday celebrations. Dylan and a group of boys went paint balling and then had a sleep over in our trailer. Needless to say, they did not go to sleep until about 5am! Dani's birthday is next and as we did last year, we will celebrate with a small, family only dinner party. Dani continues to grow, and amaze us with her bright, happy, crazy personality. She is speaking in full sentences now and continues to improve her speech through twice weekly therapy sessions. You know she is making progress when it is not only us that can understand her.

Below are a few pics from some of our summer adventures. Enjoy!

Fabulous Fourth!

This year, the 4th of July weekend did not disappoint! Unlike last year's cold, drizzly weather, this year it was all sunshine. We were fortunate to have not 1 but 2 BBQ's to celebrate with our friends and family. Sunday we hosted my parents, brother, sister-in-law and Auntie Sharon and Craig. We enjoyed Carne and Pollo Asada poolside and margaritas of course! Dylan and Dani enjoyed playing in the pool with Grandma and Yay Yay (Grandpa in Chinese) and Craig. Dustin even made a splash (literally) appearance.

Monday the Taylor brothers and their families joined us along with a good friend of mine, and our neighbors. All of the kids had a great time in the pool and it was wonderful to catch up with friends we don't get to see often enough. The evening was capped off by a ping pong tournament between Chris and Mr. Milo, with Mr. Milo taking the win (of course) and a bit of neighborhood fireworks. Great weekend, couldn't ask for anything more. Hope yours and your family's 4th was fabulous!

Gearing Up For a Great Weekend

I don't want to jinx it, but it seems like summer has arrived in San Diego. Many of us felt as if we were robbed of our sunny summer last year, so the fact that we are having gorgeous sunny weather in June (and very little June gloom) is a welcome change. The pool has hit 86• which means even I have no excuses for not jumping in! We have been able to get in 3 times already this summer and are looking forward to many more.

The Bagalini household is gearing up for a fabulous 4th of July weekend but this past weekend was quiet and restful, a nice break. We purposely kept things low key as Dylan had oral surgery on Friday and spent the weekend recovering. Dani was also experiencing a swelling episode so the weekend was spent nursing both of our little ones, household chores and of course swimming in the pool.

We are also gearing up for the arrival of our next family member, Axle, our Bengal kitty who comes home to us on Saturday. It's going to be a fun-filled 4th for us, wishing everyone else in our blogging family a fabulous 4th as well.

Our Next Adoption . . .

Yep, as if life in the Bagalini household is not crazy enough, we are adding another little one to our family! The gorgeous little boy below is a Bengal kitty which is a domestic cat bred with an Asian leopard. The results are loving, playful, beautiful cats with tiger-like markings. Our kitty will join our family at the end of June once he is old enough to leave his mommy. We are hoping this little guy will also cheer Roxy up, who just has not been the same since her brother Duke passed away last August. She definitely has a "mommy" attitude about her, so we think she will be happy to have another little one to hover over, other than Dani. The timing will be perfect since the boys will be out of school and all of my school volunteer commitments will be a thing of the past. Only 4 more days of school - can't wait!

So many changes!

Wow! Can't believe how long it has been since my last post. I need to get better about using the blog rather than Facebook.

There really have been so many changes in the last few months but the biggest was that as of April 1st I became a stay-at-home Mom. This was scary and exciting all at the same time. I have worked since I was 15 1/2 and we were never financially able for me to stop working when we had the boys, so I am truly amazed and appreciative of this opportunity.

The day after my last day of work we headed up the California coast for a road trip to check out some of the colleges on Dustin's list. It was a great trip, the kids were awesome, and it lit a fire under Dustin's butt to get his grades where they need to be so he can leave the confines of mommy and daddy, with them footing the bill!

A short 2 weeks after quitting work I was able to cross off the number 1 item on my stay-at-home to do list: get Dani to sleep in her own bed. From the day Dani became ours and for almost a year and a half now, she has slept snuggly between Chris and I. I read all the books, evaluated each different method, listened to other Mommies and ultimately I believe it came down to the fact that Dani was finally ready. She trusted us, she is secure with herself as well as her surroundings and most important I believe, she now knows that I am going to be there for her each and every day. It was almost surreal how easy the transition was. Now Chris and I have our bed back to ourselves, but still get to enjoy morning snuggle time with Dani. Can't ask for anymore than that!

Next on the list was the evening sippy cup with milk, Which wasn't as easy to overcome as getting Dani in her own bed! A few evenings of fibbing that we didn't have any more milk and voila, no more milk in the evening!

Now we are working on potty training with the goal being to be out of pull-ups by Dani's 3rd birthday. Stay tuned!

Snow Day Pics

Snow Day!

Yep, it's snowing in sunny Southern California! We took advantage of the snow in our local mountains this weekend, which are a mere 45 minutes away, packed up the kids, a lunch a few sleds and even the dog. It was a great time!

Whew! What a Weekend

These days, it seems our weekends are always busy, but THIS weekend was unusually crazy! Friday started off calmly enough with Dylan's return from 6th Grade Camp. Our house was eerily quiet during his absence, and it was Dustin who finally said, "our house is too quiet, I miss Dylan." I should have recorded that one! I even snuck away for an hour to have a massage. But alas when I returned home the chaos ensued. Not only did we have our 3 kids, but we gained one. One of Dustin's friends was spending the weekend with us.

Saturday, Dylan and my Dad were in a fishing tournament so Chris was up at 3am, getting him ready and dropping him off at my Dad's boat. After a long day of fishing, Team Bagalini/Bostian grabbed 13th place out of 150 teams. Not too shabby!

After dropping Dylan off at the boat, Chris returned home to round up Dustin and his friend and drive North to Wittier, CA for lacrosse tryouts for a club team. Chris spent the entire afternoon and early evening with them, before returning to San Diego, only to load up once again and go into work at 8pm Saturday night. He did not return until 2pm on Sunday. Talk about tired!

Sunday morning Dylan, Dani and I were up early (not quite at the crack of dawn) as Dylan had two lacrosse games that day, the first at 9am! This was a playoff game, which they easily won, and thus competed in the championship game at 11am, which again they won. It was a complete shut-out, 6-0! Way to go Laxdawgs! After that, it was the usual weekend responsibilities like grocery shopping, laundry and cleaning. Here's hoping we get a break NEXT weekend . . .oh wait we have 3 more lacrosse games!

I couldn't resist posting this picture. Roxy was pooped from the weekend too and figured since Dani never sleeps in her bed, why should it go to waste!

Sunny San Diego Day

Today was a stellar San Diego Day. 76 degrees along the coast, no wind, just gorgeous. That's why we live here! Dylan won both of his lacrosse games today, making their team 5-0, then went out fishing with Jim (aka Grandpa) and landed this spotted bay bass. Dustin headed off to Marine Street for a little body surfing with his friends, while Chris, Dani and I enjoyed the beautiful weather outside. Great end to a great weekend.
